Ingredients [SHOW/HIDE]
The inhumane work environment of garment sweatshops in developing countries sometimes cause tragic events. Ingredients is an attempt to visualize the number of the lives lost in garment sectors of clothe-exporting countries, using the garment piece that symbolizes the culture of disposable fashion: t-shirts.
If you divide the number of casualties in garment industry by the number of t-shirts exported, you can get the number of lives lost represented in one piece of t-shirt. However, in reality, those numbers were not easily available. So the numbers in this project were drawn and calculated from such sources as: annual export statistics of countries, casualty statistics of labor ministries, industry reports of garment sectors, or trade offers of on-line trade markets.
The numbers printed on the front of the shirts show the number of the lives lost represented in one t-shirt, and the tags show the statistical figures and the calculations based on the data of big t-shirt exporters. Numbers are indicative.
